Mistigram: I appreciate that the occasion is staggered across different jurisdictions, so I’ve seen a lot of #Pride art go by while waiting for our local parade to come up here in area code 604. So here’s a piece we’ve been saving for the occasion, a #rainbow image from the portfolio of @redeyephoto, released in this month’s MIST0818 artpack.
I don’t know if it’s just generational but I’ve seen a great deal more celebration of alternative sexualities, lifestyles and gender identities and expressions in the pixelart, fusion bead and crossstitch communities than I ever did in the underground computer artscene or demoscene, the most transgressive a group of straight white young guys could get. (Is phreaking a kink? Is Unix just another way of saying ace? What light does the #hack sexchart shed on the situation?) As with its domination of participation women and femmes in artscene activities, Mist Classic likely also featured more diverse representation in this regard than any other artgroup (or every other, combined!), again typically in our overlooked lit and music divisions…. so we don’t have a lot to show for it in the “picture of the day” format.
