Today on Mistigram, Amiga whiz Sentience upscaled the ANSI art Mistigris cat mascot and logo drawn by Etana for our 2nd anniversary in 1996… reproducing it as if drawn in a higher resolution (did someone say hirez?) sometime later. This went on the shelf for, if memory serves correct, a T-shirt design. There on the shelf it remained until it finally came out for inclusion in the MIST2000 collection of loose ends released to the public in early 2016. It’s not a bad likeness! Pity about the punctuality, though…

Today on Mistigram, the sad story (expounded upon at great length on Instagram) of this lovely little piece of surreal Amiga hirez drawn by Sentience sometime in the mid-‘90s and then reserved for use as cover art for a printed collection of Mistigris literature that was never to be. The hand-tree, the land-shark, the restful penguin… probably all reaching a wider audience today than in the previous 20 years combined. Thank god for the long tail!
Today on Mistigram, a piece of ANSI art in the exotic 80x50 screen mode by Sentience, drawn on his Amiga using homebrew software. It was released as part of a “colly” (an end-to-end compilation if you will) of other works drawn in the same 50-line mode in our January 1996 artpack. The logo is purple and pleasant, round and friendly, but the Terminator-esque illustration warns of the promises and perils of the cyber era knocking at the door.
No one has ever shaded an ANSI art logo quite like this, and the piece contains its own explanation. (I’ve always sided with the idea that it was put together using nonstandard ANSI tools on an Amiga, hence it would naturally be a little offbeat, but that could be pure speculation on my part.) It was drawn by Sentience and used in infofiles for our November 1996 artpack collection, and … there is really nothing else quite like it.
Edited to add: Sentience explains some of the reasoning behind his ANSIs’ non-standard appearance!I programmed my own ansi editor in Blitz Basic for the Amiga. I could set the cursor position with a mouse! I added a color picker with the halftones. Eventually I put in the ability to load up a bitmap to trace over.. But that got me in trouble and truncated my visit to ANSIland.
Anyways, things always looked a little different because the colors were slightly non standard and the DOS font slightly off.
