MIST0426/US-DIANE_W_YOUNG-ADVENTURES_IN_A_MINOR_ORDER

Mistigram: sometimes we celebrate canonical classics established through the ages and sometimes, as in Ratatouille, we discover and defend the new. In this #ANSIart screen Moth (with help from LDA) reproduces the cover photograph of a new entomological monograph, #DianeWYoung's #AdventuresInAMinorOrder, pertaining to the #booklice and #barklice of #psosoptera. If you have a strong interest in the subject and money is no object, you can purchase a copy today via https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/4463637180/adventures-in-a-minor-order-insects This piece was included in last month's books-themed MIST0426 artpack collection.

MIST0426/MOTH-STEVE_GRAND-GROWING_UP_WITH_LUCY

Mistigram: this #ANSIart adaptation of the cover to scientist #SteveGrand's 2003 DIY domestic android manual #GrowingUpWithLucy was drawn by Moth and included in last month's books-themed MIST0426 artpack collection.

MIST0426/US-KURT_CYRUS-ODDHOPPER_OPERA

Mistigram: this #ANSIart adaptation of the cover art to #KurtCyrus' 2001 illustrated children's book #OddhopperOpera, a riot of bugs and creepy crawlers, was drawn by Moth and LDA, and was included in last month's books-themed MIST0426 artpack collection.

MIST0426/MOTH-MARK_Z_DANIELEWSKI-HOUSE_OF_LEAVES

Mistigram: this is an #ASCIIart interpretation of the cover art to the first edition of #MarkZDanielewski's 2000 Gothic postmodern novel #HouseOfLeaves, depicting architectural blueprints around a spiral staircase and compass, as interpreted by Moth. This piece was included in last month's new books-themed MIST0426 artpack collection.

MIST0226/US-GRASSCII

Mistigram: "#ascii in the grasscii", a small and slowly-growing seed of #ANSIart from our mistfunk networked Moebius server, is the handiwork of LDA, sassafras and Moth, emerging just a few weeks before spring officially kicks in. (Maybe it didn't confer with the groundhog.) It was included in the new unthemed MIST0226 artpack collection.

ADVENT24/19_DEC24

Mistigram: a twist on a classic seasonal formula, this red-and-green sprig of #holly -- #yauponholly, North America's only indigenous caffeinated plant -- was drawn by Moth for this date in last year's ADVENT24 #ANSIart #AdventCalendar.

ADVENT24/16_DEC24

Mistigram: Kanto experiences freezing temperatures at this time of year. If you're cold, they're cold - bring your #Pokemon inside! This illustration of a chilly Caterpie and Venonat bundled up was drawn for this date in last year's ADVENT24 #ANSIart #AdventCalendar by Mothnox.

ADVENT24/10_DEC24

Mistigram: for this date in last year's ADVENT24 #ANSIart #AdventCalendar, Moth drew this seasonal showdown between a cardinal and a blue jay over a frozen birdbath.  Demonstrating the calendar's availability as a BBS door, this display was captured from Funtopia BBS.

ADVENT24/02_DEC24

Mistigram: Frozen's Olaf isn't the only snowman interested in warm summertime pursuits! This screen for today's Dec 2nd date (at bottom right) was drawn by Moth for last year's ADVENT24 #ANSIart #AdventCalendar. (We have new art as well as the old for the ADVENT25 calendar, but you have to go open those little doors yourself... or wait a year for us to post them.)

The program also has a BBS door version, and one place you can see the calendar in action is, as demonstrated, on @_n1tr0n's "Hold Fast" BBS at https://holdfastbbs.ca/ (Let us know if you host it on _your_ BBS and we will post a screen shot from there!)

MIST1024/US-KILLER_TOMATOES

Mistigram: Originally intended as vegetarian menu art for the IMBIBE01 food-themed e-mag, Cthulu adapted the poster to the 1978 B-movie #AttackOfTheKillerTomatoes to #ANSIart with help from LDA and Moth. It was included in the spooky MIST1024 artpack released one year ago.

MIST0725/MOTH-MISSINGNO

Mistigram: this glitchy #ANSIart screen by Moth (which has flashing characters and hidden text in its original form) enshrines The Secret of Missingno, one of the artist's favorite pieces of weird old #Pokemon fanfic. Depicted is a mutated #Mew clone, for inclusion in last month's #cat-themed MIST0725 artpack collection.

MIST0725/US-SOCKINGTON

Mistigram: in the first decade of this new century, Cute Overload and I Can Has Cheezburger? testified to the self-evident truth that the Internet was, on a fundamental level, for sharing funny cat-related content, and all other applications for it were kind of secondary.  From this milieu emerged Jason "Textfiles" Scott's cat Sockington, who over the course of a decade accumulated over a million Twitter followers.  Though Socks died in 2022, a good cat is never forgotten, so when Cthulu was coming up with the short list of celebrated cats to enshrine in #ANSIart in last month's #cat-themed MIST0725 artpack collection, this hep cat invariably stalked its way to the top of the pile.  LDA and Moth assisted in locking down this adaptation of a 2009 t-shirt design originally by Megan Hopkins and R. Stevens.

MIST0725/US-CATS

Mistigram: Moth began drawing an #ANSIart sketch of Odd from Code Lyoko, then made a critical error and left the piece up on our networked Moebius server for others to add to.  Zeus II swooped in, kept the pose and took the WIP in a wildly divergent direction with help from LDA.  This piece was included in the recent #cat-themed MIST0725 artpack collection.

MIST0725/MIST0725.MEM

Mistigram: shhh, the librarian is napping!  This #ASCIIart scene of a #cat drawing strength from the presence of old books in large quantities was made by Moth and included in the new cat-themed MIST0725 artpack collection -- though stay tuned for one celebrating the world of books and literature coming up next year!

IGNITE01/MOTH-REC

Mistigram: on New Year's Eve we released two artpacks -- the second of them, IGNITE01, was a collection of multimedia screens drawn in the #AtariST's forgotten IGS (Instant Graphics & Sound) format, intended for BBS use, curated by @kirkman14 as part of his deep dive into the defunct system, extensively documented at https://breakintochat.com/blog/category/instant-graphics-and-sound/ This spiralling specimen, "the recursion is justified", was drawn by Moth.

MIST1024/MOTH-CALCGHOST

Mistigram: Moth just dashed this off at the last minute so it makes for a strange specimen to make their world debut, but nonetheless, I admire its playfulness and technological bent, so I hope you all join me in appreciating the inverted message that the #Calculator #Ghost has to share with us. This piece was included in the spooky new MIST1024 artpack collection.

MIST1024/LDA-MOTH

Mistigram: one of the relatively less-terrifying screens in the spooky new MIST1024 pack (at least, until it flies into your face as you walk past the porch light), this colourful #ANSIart Moth is the latest of LDA's series of tributes to his fellow text art practitioners in the Mistigris sphere. (Those unfamiliar with Moth's work can find his artpack debut in this collection as well!)

ADEPTAPRIL/SEPT09

Mistigram: we don't want to celebrate computer bugs but it sure is useful to be able to find and address them! On this day in 1947, actual computer debugging was achieved for the first time by removing a moth that had gotten into the Mark II Aiken Relay Calculator, being tested at Harvard University. AdeptApril has illustrated in #ANSIart the log of the incident, complete with taped moth!
