Mistigram: when I said that we didn’t historically release artwork on religious themes, I must have somehow forgotten this item. Mistigram: generally speaking (poets aside) we haven’t as a collective dealt much with religious themes since Genocide Kitten shattered his BBS the Neon Jesus, especially not engaging it on any kind of sincerity, and typically I would have allowed this piece to pass by my curation but you know what - if not at #Easter then when? This bit of evangelical #ANSIart for The Fishing Net was drawn by the recently disappeared Max Mouse and was released in the recent MIST0318 artpack collection. Mistigram: @starstew has reinvented the simple, happy accident kind of profound upheaval (what the French might describe as bouleversement) resulting from the simplest of adjustments - re-orienting an image’s “up”. In this photo from the recent MIST0318 artpack collection entitled “Up Sky Down”, he somehow manages to compose a meditation on the wild blue yonder and the unfathomable cosmos lying just beyond it, even tickling the tangent of that Tesla Roadster en route to Mars, out of the most mundane material imaginable - taking a photo of a mud puddle in a parking lot. Mistigram: Surely it behooves us to come up with something on...

Mistigram: Surely it behooves us to come up with something on today’s occasion of UNESCO’s World Poetry Day. Not every underground computer artgroup can boast of having included poetry among its supported artforms, but for much of the classic ‘90s period Mist was choking on it – indeed its presence was likely what we were best known for, tarring us with an unspoken “ANSI artists, turn away” stigma that remains with us largely unchanged even today. But if not for the involvement of a poet the group would never have been founded, run or revived, so… eschewing it was never an option for us. (Strangely, the years took care of that for us; I blame the great interface shift, whereby the artists are still arting and the musicians are still musicking, but the writers are now tapping and swiping.) There were many great pieces to choose from, all intensely of their era, but I settled on this doggerel selection from March of 1995 (MIST0395) by Livewire, better known for his absurd prose and short stories, as hitting a celebratory note, invoking a period cyberspace theme (specifically DJ James Joyce’s BBS Al’s House of Meats) and really hitting the meta-ness with a satisfying oomph. http://ift.tt/2GeEcxR
