MIST1024/DARKMAN_ALMIGHTY-HALLOWEEN_III

Mistigram: Darkman Almighty drew this #ANSIart take on 1982's third movie in the #Halloween franchise, featuring the lethal masks of the Silver Shamrock company. This piece was included in the spooky new MIST1024 artpack collection.

MIST1024/HORSENBURGER-WE'RE_READY_TO_BELIEVE_YOU

Mistigram: "WE'RE READY TO BELIEVE YOU."  The entrepreneurial parapsychologists in the #Ghostbusters were never above making use of mass media to economically get their commercial message spread far and wide, so @horsenburger likes to imagine that if New York City had featured a #teletext service in 1984, it might have run an ad a little like this one.  This screen was included in the spooky new MIST1024 artpack collection.

MIST1024/KUROGAO-HALLOWEEN

Mistigram: all the whimsical old costumes rise from their graves at the bottom of the tickle trunk for one more night strutting and fretting across the stage on #Halloween. @kurogao96 shares their seasonal well-wishes in their #ASCIIart-with-#emoji style. This piece was included in the spooky new MIST1024 artpack collection.

MIST1024/LDA-MOTH

Mistigram: one of the relatively less-terrifying screens in the spooky new MIST1024 pack (at least, until it flies into your face as you walk past the porch light), this colourful #ANSIart Moth is the latest of LDA's series of tributes to his fellow text art practitioners in the Mistigris sphere. (Those unfamiliar with Moth's work can find his artpack debut in this collection as well!)

ADEPTAPRIL/OCT31

Mistigram: finally, a holiday we recognize and expected! This jolly #JackOLantern, drawn in #ANSIart by AdeptApril of Storm BBS, wishes you all a safe and #HappyHalloween. (Also, it wants its guts back. Maybe don't tell it that you roasted them to eat the seeds.)

MIST1024/US-DOOMSCROLL

Mistigram: there was never any doubt that this was going to be the first individual work from the creepy new MIST1024 artpack collection showcased, not least because it was the earliest piece of haunting art to stake its Halloween claim in our incoming directory, nearly a year ago. This #teletext screen, "Doomscroll", whose test pattern resonates sinisterly with Poltergeist and Videodrome, is a collaboration between two modern masters of constrained semigraphics, @littlebitspace and @atonalosprey.

MIST1024 Pizzatoe mosaic

Mistigram: and if that previous mosaic wasn't enough #ANSIart for you, here's a weird coincidence -- in the final week of preparing the spooky new MIST1024 collection, we start seeing posts of creepy #textmode art shared to X at high volume by someone with the utterly bizarre name "Pizzatoe", and invite them to make a guest appearance. Turns out it's a whole new ANSI crew from an unexpected place taking their first steps in sharing their work outside their circle! Three of them, Amy, Jackey and Momo, shared a wealth of thematically-appropriate and formally-relevant pieces in this new artpack. Here are a few of them! Keep your eyes peeled for more from this dynamic cadre!

ADEPTAPRIL/OCT30

Mistigram: things seem to be coming into alignment -- not only are AdeptApril's #ANSIart screens pertinent to daily occasions, but even to the overall season. Apparently today is National #CandyCorn Day! Why today? My guess is that those about to distribute it tomorrow night have begun sampling it for quality assurance purposes.

MIST1024 ANSI art mosaic

Mistigram: many veterans of the underground PC artscene feel that #ANSIart is necessarily the main attraction in any artpack. Our spooky new MIST1024 collection has been calibrated to be roughly fifty percent ANSI (plus more #textmode work that is very similar), so these people will be terrifyingly catered to by its eerie contents. Check it out! Here are some sinister samples you will find in its profane archive of the damned.

MIST1024 mosaic

Mistigram: here is a sampling of some of the various #textmode and #semigraphics art formats and styles in use in the (frankly terrifying) new MIST1024 artpack collection, including #PETSCII, #teletext, #ASCII art and #ANSIart.

ADEPTAPRIL/OCT29

Mistigram: a cosmic web of tubes? I think I remember this from Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure! This #ANSIart screen by AdeptApril is an abstract impression of "The Internet", today on World #Internet Day.

MIST1024/FILE_ID.DIZ

Mistigram: just in time for #Halloween, here comes the spooky new MIST1024 artpack collection full of seasonal computer art on dark themes.  Browse it on 16colo.rs or download it for local enjoyment on your device.

Its FILE_ID.DIZ illustration pictured here, "Silent Scream", recently won its creator littlebitspace first place in the IBM PC #ASCIIART compo at the Flashparty demoparty.

ADEPTAPRIL/OCT27

Mistigram: UNESCO proclaimed today the World Day for Audiovisual Heritage. I don't know about you, but between its name and this #ANSIart illustration by AdeptApril, that sounds to me like a fancy excuse for watching old TV shows... but apparently there's more to it than that.

ADEPTAPRIL/OCT26

Mistigram: those noises you heard last night while you were trying to sleep? That's right -- they were due to celebrants observing "Worldwide Howl at the Moon Night". (Just isn't the same in the light of day, sadly.) This #ANSIart screen enshrining the occasion was drawn by AdeptApril. Awooo!!

MIST1019/BLIPPYPIXEL-CREEPY_CHATEAU

Mistigram: this moody #teletext illustration, titled "Creepy Chateau" -- just the kind of place you'd hate to have your car break down in front of on a stormy night! -- was drawn by @blippypixel and included in the spooky MIST1019 artpack collection released five years ago this month.

ADEPTAPRIL/OCT25

Mistigram: AdeptApril advises us through this #ANSIart screen, an International Artwork, that today is International Artist Day. It tracks!

MIST1020/XTCOMICS-BATMAN_RETURNS

Mistigram: In 1992, Tim Burton's second #Batman movie came out, titled #BatmanReturns. @XTComics used its name as the premise for a gag in his #ASCIIart / emoji comic strip, depicting a trick or treater revisiting a residence for more candy. This was included in the MIST1020 artpack collection released four years ago this month, but note that the artist has recently resumed working in this medium back on social media.

ADEPTAPRIL/OCT24

Mistigram: this #ANSIart portrait of the Sequoya Public #Library in Madison, Wisconsin was drawn by AdeptApril in celebration of the International Day of Libraries. (And fingers crossed that our favorite library, the Internet Archive, is back on its feet soon!)

MIST1021/MIST1021.MEM

Mistigram: this jolly little #Halloween village #ASCIIart scene is the handiwork of ldb (coloured by Cthulu!) and was used in an infofile in the spooky MIST1021 artpack collection released three years ago this month.

ADEPTAPRIL/OCT23

Mistigram: AdeptApril helpfully pointed out in this #ANSIart screen that today, the 23rd day of the 10th month, is "Mole Day", observed between 6:02 am and 6:02 pm, in recognition of #AvogadrosNumber, rounded to 6.022x10²³ - the number of particles of a substance in a mole of it. (It's important in chemistry.)

MIST1022/LITTLEBITSPACE-PLANT_AND_SKULL

Mistigram: this skullish monochrome #PETSCII exploration of the cycle of death and rebirth is unsurprisingly the handiwork of @littlebitspace and was included in the spooky MIST1022 artpack collection released two years ago this month.

ADEPTAPRIL/OCT22

MISTIGRAM: WE'RE NOT YELLING, WE'RE NOT BOOMERS, IT'S JUST CAPSLOCK DAY. (AND, MAKING ADEPTAPRIL'S #ANSIART ILLUSTRATION A LITTLE MORE INTERESTING, IT'S ALSO NATIONAL COLOR DAY.)

MIST1023/ATONALOSPREY-HAMLET

Mistigram: "Alas, poor #Yorick! I knew him, Horatio. A fellow of infinite jest, of most excellent fancy." You may recall this boney character from Act 5 Scene 1 of William Shakespeare's #Hamlet. His remains were illustrated in #teletext by @AtonalOsprey and included in last year's spooky MIST1023 artpack collection.

BLDNR2024D/LDA-LSB

Mistigram: there is no great way of presenting "scrollers", very tall and narrow #ANSIart compositions, as static images over social media. Nevertheless, LDA won yesterday's #Blender improvised computer art competition with this one, depicting #LockShockAndBarrel from #TheNightmareBeforeChristmas living the required compo topics writ large: MASKED CHILDREN / TERRORISM / CIRCUS. Ladies and gentlemen... this way to the egress. You'll have an opportunity to get a closer look at it at full width (and many, many screens of height) when the BLNDR2024D artpack drops shortly.

ADEPTAPRIL/OCT21

Mistigram: Windows users not wanted here -- as AdeptApril's #ANSIart screen indicates, this autumnal day hosts the occasion of #Apple Day.  One should keep the doctor away, and the other ones on the ground may be good for cider!

MIST1017/SPITOUFS-ANSIPOE-(24)-THE_MASQUE_OF_THE_RED_DEATH

Mistigram: this #ANSIart accompanied the culmination of #EdgarAllanPoe's #MasqueOfTheRedDeath in Lobo Spitouf's complete illustrated #ANSIPOE collection for BBSes, reprinted in the MIST1017 artpack collection released seven years ago this month.

ADEPTAPRIL/OCT20

Mistigram: On July 7 we posted a variation of this #ANSIart screen by AdeptApril for National Air Traffic Control Day, but today is the _Inter_national Day of the Air Traffic Control_ler_. Subtle distinctions, you see, but either way they're responsible for keeping your jet airliners from colliding in mid-air both nationally and, it turns out, internationally, so hats off to them!

MIST1018/HORSENBURGER-PSYCHO

Mistigram: a week ago, we shared @horsenburger's monochrome #teletext portrait of Norman Bates in Alfred Hitchcock's 1960 film #Psycho, but here's its complement, seminal "scream queen" #JanetLeigh as #MarionCrane on the receiving end of Bates' knife in the shower. This screen was included in the MIST1018 artpack collection released six years ago this month.

ADEPTAPRIL/OCT19

Mistigram: this #ANSIart screen from AdeptApril reminds us to be aware of #LGBT Centres today (and every day, if needed.) Even 30 years ago, in area code 604's BBS incarnation of cyberspace, I recall seeing bulletin boards dedicated to this community, so a long overdue thanks to their SysOps Dan Smith and David Murdoch.

MIST1019/XTCOMICS-I_KNOW_WHAT_YOU_DID_LAST_SUMMER

Mistigram: taking up employment at a #FortuneCookie factory in order to sadistically torment the teenagers who left you for dead is really playing the long game. @XTComics visited this unlikely #IKnowWhatYouDidLastSummer premise as a gag in one of his #ASCIIart comic strips, and we included it in the spooky MIST1019 artpack collection released five years ago this month.

ADEPTAPRIL/OCT18

Mistigram: #chocolate #cupcake day? Listen -- you're not going to make it through Halloween unless you start preparing yourself for the blood sugar spikes now. This #ANSIart public service announcement is courtesy of AdeptApril of Storm BBS.

MIST1020/C00K13_M0N5T3R-BLACK_CAT

Mistigram: yikes! This surprising (and unlucky?) #pixelart #blackcat #catgirl is the handiwork of artist C00K13_M0N5T3R and was included in the spooky MIST1020 artpack collection released four years ago this month.

ADEPTAPRIL/OCT17

Mistigram: VisiCalc was the killer app for the Apple II and home computing has never been the same since its introduction, so let's give it up for National #Spreadsheet Day! AdeptApril has taken the liberty of illustrating some rows and columns in #ANSIart for the occasion.

MIST1021/BNJMNBRGMN-IN_HIS_HOUSE_AT_R'LYEH

Mistigram: @bnjmnbrgmn (aka Bema) drew this, "In his house at R'lyeh" (dead #Cthulhu waits dreaming) as part of an eldritch suite of #Lovecraftian #textmode screens fashioned from #PETSCII characters. This gloriously goopy green Cyclopean scene was included in the spooky MIST1021 artpack collection released three years ago this month.
