DARK0597/DS-05975

Mistigram: this monochrome newschool #ASCIIart logo, a single large S for Spoof also containing within its body all the other letters, was drawn by Dead Soul and included with our Mistigris World Tour stop with Dark Illustrated 29 years ago in the DARK0597 artpack collection.

DARK0597/DS-0597A

Mistigram: dwelling a little longer on our Mistigris World Tour stop in DARK0597, here's a newschool #ASCIIart logo for Entropy (well, "E" at least) drawn by Dead Soul.

DARK0597/MASK-05

Mistigram: to cleanse the palate a bit, here's some mysteriously glowing ooze... (How refreshing!) 28 years ago this month, the Mistigris World Tour collectively made guest appearances with our Ontarian artscene colleagues in Dark Illustrated. Here's an #ANSIart logo from DARK0597, a collaboration between our Neophyte and their Discofunk 1974.

DARK0597/MN-IE1

Mistigram: Happy #AprilFools Day!  This #ANSIart screen of a graffiti-style jester was drawn by Menace as a menu template for Illegal Error BBS.  It was included in our DARK0597 Mistigris World Tour release with Dark Illustrated 28 years ago.

Yesterday, Mistigram featured this newschool ASCII art rendition of Image Comics’ big man on campus Spawn, drawn by forgotten gem Crystal Meth and first released in our May 1997 joint artpack with Dark Illustrated in the culmination of the Mistigris World Tour.

The Mistigram pool is extensively shuffled according to a few criteria so we don’t get all the same artform in a row, there’s a good mix between early and late Mist classic, keeping too many logos in a row from appearing and preventing an individual artist from dominating a week unless we darned well deliberately intend for them to do so… but we don’t adjust for subject. This picture was planned to run weeks and months ago, but ended up in a spot where we would have ended up with two or even three Spawns in a row. There is probably room to do Spawn Week, but if we do end up rolling that way, I’d prefer for it to be on purpose 8)

Today on Mistigram, a joint ANSI art depiction of X-Man Colossus drawn by Wetworks of Mist and The Green Hornet of Dark Illustrated as part of our Mistigris World Tour appearance with Dark in May of 1997. I’m not certain who did what, but I’d put good money on that background fire having come from the desk of TGH.

Today on Mistigram we feature this four-way collaboration from our May 1997 Mistigris World Tour stop with Dark Illustrated – the ANSI art portrait of Todd Macfarlane’s Image Comics mainstay Spawn was drawn by Mist member Dead Soul and Dark members Samurai, The Green Hornet, and Corinthian… who would go on to feature further in Mist artpacks before disappearing altogether. (Has anybody out there seen Corn?)

That there is a pixel perfect digital fire effect.

Today on Mistigram: a newschool ASCII art logo by Dead Soul excerpted from a larger piece, released in our Mistigris World Tour stop with Dark Illustrated in May 1997. (phew!)

Today on Mistigram, this postmodern, deconstructed angel by our Hawaiian member Kyo – the computer counterpart, perhaps, to the album art to Nirvana’s 1993 album In Utero. It was released in May of 1997 in our Dark Illustrated visit on the Mistigris World Tour.

Straying from the status quo was a delicate gambit in the competitive underground computer artscene, where anything other than conformity to established standards would be considered failure. And when the standards were to plaster artpacks with anatomically impossible babes in sprayed-on costumes, how could one beat them at their own game? By applying reductio ad absurdum: “More is better, right?”

This piece of ANSI art was drawn by animation buff, Hallucigenia founder (13 paltry months down the road) and Dreams of Dark, Enchanted Lizards SysOp Etana, helping Mist to distinguish itself among the big fish in Dark Illustrated, asserting ourselves in the culmination of our Mistigris World Tour in May of 1997.

And, still playing catch-up with our Instagram account, we’d previously shared this newschool ASCII art logo (two of them, actually, though the tiny one leaves the “r” our of “Mistigris”) by Crystal Meth of Mistigris, originally released in DARK0597 – the final stop of the Mistigris World Tour.
