 Mistigram: this simple #ANSIart logo, condensed to the point of partial abstraction -- but still handily demonstrating the artist's specific aesthetic -- was drawn for Aftermath BBS by Quip, and included in the M-9801 artpack collection released 26 years ago this month.

Mistigram: you might assume that Weird's newschool #ASCIIart logo celebrated random number generation, but in fact it was intended for use in promotion of the Raging Hype's project (a BBS?) Ruins of Neon Genesis. This piece was included in the M-9801 artpack collection released 26 years ago this month.

Today on Mistigram we featured an extraordinary ASCII art / hirez hybrid by Dead Soul that first ran in our January 1998 artpack. I’m not sure precisely what relationship there is, if any, between the foreground graffiti logos and the manga-style ASCII art in the background, but they are most definitely juxtaposed.

Today on Mistigram, a cartoonish mad scientist from the desk of Quip, who drew this ANSI art not-a-Mist-promo (actually it advertises the BBS Geeksta’s Paradise, but the logo at the bottom got cut off). It was first released in January of 1998, but later saw thematic re-use in the photo announcement (99 weeks ago!) of our 2014 revival, along with: the unique Mistigris coffee mug Etana made me for a turn-of-the-century birthday party, the volume of Poetry Comics, the physical-ANSI-art Duplo, and the USB floppy disc drive containing a copy of the limited-edition 10th-anniversary TABdisks from way back in 2003.

Our Instagram post from the vaults this morning is an ANSI art Mist logo (give or take a letter, you get to interpret!) by Mr. Wrong from Quebec. It is blue and hollow and a style of logo design I haven’t previously observed in the artscene! He drew us a logo last year in MIST1015, but this one dates to quite a bit earlier – our January 1998 artpack! Hats off!

From the memberlist of M-9801, here’s a striking and unique ANSI art logo by The Extremist. January is the start of a New Year and a rising sun is an optimistic symbol, so it’s perhaps ironic that this was the beginning of our hardest-working and most catastrophic year yet, one which saw Mist crash hard and not stir again until our 2014 revival.

On the Instagram sharing of this logo I allude to an “old poem”, composed basking on modern art one sunny day circa 1999 at Capilano College and released at long last in MIST2000 at the end of last year, but for full disclosure of the ominous foreboding in which I hold optimistic suns (a true native son of Raincouver) I may as well share the whole thing here:

IT IS TOO NICE OUT
to write poetry today.
not for lack of subject matter
	- the world is still a terrible place:
genocide—multinational corporate tyranny—human rights violation-
mass extinction—small arms proliferation—rape—
antibiotic-resistant bacteria—wage inequity—intolerance
and right now 
right now
a parent
is telling their child 

"Because I say so!"

but the sun is out
people are smiling, buying, doing their best to bring more people into this world
(do they know something I do not?)
so like a lizard on a hot rock 
I renew my concern for creature comforts -
like a frog in a pot
on a slow stove
I feel no need
to move.
