Not that we wouldn’t post Hallowe'en art and works by Nail every day if we could, but today on Mistigram, back to the regular routine: one of the final huzzahs from Mist Classic, this piece of RIPscrip vector art by longtime Mist RIP specialist Lady Blue, with her buddy Kitiara of RCA helping out with the background miasma. It was released in May of 1998, and is one of the very, very few pieces of artwork to acknowledge the initial metaphorical conceit of the name “Mistigris” – though more commonly understood as French for “alleycat”, from there the word was further applied to a variant of poker in which the jokers are wild. Ripe with (largely untapped) symbolism potential! The writing on the playing cards looks simple, but I can’t think of a simple way to make it happen in RIPscrip editors – which is the hallmark of a great artist, making the difficult look effortless! If anyone has seen Lady Blue, please send her our way: we miss her!

Today on Mistigram, this Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, trapped in the sewer behind a luminescent trail of mutagen ooze – all rendered in ANSI art by Pure Voltage, released in our May 1998 artpack. PV didn’t create a /lot/ of ANSI art, but there was always something interesting going on in his pieces.

Today on Mistigram, this utterly unique ANSI art Mist logo drawn by guest Spear for our May 1998 artpack. Part graffiti, part circuit diagram – I’d never seen anything like it before or since!

Platinum (briefly Bleak) made his mark on Mistigris Classic for years, lingering in the eaves as an ANSI logo specialist, endlessly experimenting with different approaches and new effects. In today’s specimen from Mistigram, he laid the logo on an ASCII art bed, then superimposed a pair of virtual triangular prisms on the ANSI font like a pair of sunglasses lenses, lending everything on the other side of it a smoky appearance.

Today on Mistigram, this juicy ANSI art logo was drawn for our use by guests “rz” and “tr” – there was so little textmode art coming our way in 1998 you figure I would have remembered what their full nicknames were, but no dice. We first used it in infofiles in May 1998 (which explains the bizarre caption beneath the logo – informative and creative text followed) and then again in our 2014 revival artpack when confusion and forgetfulness impelled us to re-use the logo in infofiles there as well. Just as well – ACiD re-used logos over and over again, and no one had greater access to fresh textmode art than them!
