“It would be nice if Mistigris could get its act together...

“It would be nice if Mistigris could get its act together to put together more than one or two releases every year,” I idly mused, and as I contemplated this impossibility the file MONKEYS.PAW on one of my old floppy diskettes twisted like a snake. The thought was expressed in October of 2016 and here in October 2017 with last night’s release of the MIST1017 artpack we are now celebrating a lucky total of 13 consecutive monthly artpack releases from Mistigris, a streak unprecendented even in Mist’s classic era in the mid-‘90s and unknown to the computer artscene since iCE Advertisements threw in the towel in 2002.

Doubling down on numerological significance, this collection contains precisely 256 files, proving once and for all that we come by our 8-bit credentials honestly. Not only does this collection contain a predictable bloodbath of teletext sixels on every horrific subject popular and cult by Horsenburger (to say nothing of the rest of the teletext crew), but also a complete ANSI-illustrated suite of the poems and stories of Edgar Allan Poe by Spitoufs. From photography to #inktober sketches, oil paintings to pixelart writ physical in fusion beads, high resolution artwork to animated sculptures, we present… a tremendous quantity of underground computer art embodying a tremendous quality of sheer spookiness.

Here, enjoy a grand tour through nearly half of the artpack’s contents with this enhanced multimedia highlights reel! Then when you’re done, you can save a copy of the complete artpack locally at bit.ly/MISTOWEEN17, or peruse it through your web browser at your favorite artpack gallery today!
