Had a blast on the @Bitcouver show on @CJSF last night celebrating ‘90s computer music of area code 604 – it runs from 8-10 pm every Wednesday night, and we hope to make further appearances in the future. We covered a lot of nostalgic vintage computing territory ranging from the finer points of calling bulletin board systems to the limitations of floppy diskette storage and 2400 baud transfer speeds, celebrating the triumphs of vintage hardware from Adlib and Creative Labs and pitting the Atari ST and Commodore Amiga head to head, right where they always belonged. But in nearly every case, we were talking over a lot of the music. Here I am, the only source in the world of some of these songs, giving the only chance to magically hear these tunes any human has had for the past 20 years… and there I am, tediously recounting Trixter’s expulsion of artpacks from the Hornet FTP archives. So until Bitcouver’s own log of what went out over the air goes public for streaming later today, I can offer up my own “just the songs, please” mix with none of that troublesome context bogging things down.
