Signal boosting on behalf of @vanchipmusic: From the creators...

Signal boosting on behalf of @vanchipmusic:

From the creators of the OVERFLOW local chiptune concert series comes a different kind of event - a more intimate gathering geared towards cultivating and sharing knowledge in the creation of chiptune and its related low-bit arts!

This is for all the budding or experienced artists who dabble in - or want to learn more about - retro-tinged music or visuals. This is equal parts Workshop, Exploratory Performance Space, and Jam Session. >> WORKSHOPS >>>> 1) Intro to Chiptune - by @bryfacetron
- How even is chip music made?? What kinds of hardware and software do you need? What do different chip platforms sound like? Bry will walk you through everything that you need, while providing some demos of what it’s like to write chiptunes from scratch using real hardware.

2) Glitch Visuals by VJ Base64 - Ever wanted to learn about how to create glitchy visuals? Base64 will explain the art of controlled destruction, starting with the art of datamoshing (manipulating visual/audio data to surface weird and beautiful visual artifacts) >> ROUNDTABLE OPEN MIC / JAM >>>> - This is a bit more of a freeform part of the evening where attendees who dabble in the art of chiptune can show off stuff they’re working on, by plugging into our central soundsystem. Or, attendees can use this time as an educational “petting zoo” of sorts to learn how to write music with the hardware and software made available that evening! More details on how this works soon - expect to sign up on a signup sheet where we can keep track of who might be bringing what. >> LIVE SETS >>>> 1) MATT GRAVES typically performs on a unique setup using multiple Game Boys combined with ukelele and vocoder vocals. Check out how he brings it all together in this live-set of singable indie-pop-styled feels.

2) FREAKY DNA (Leonard J. Paul) has already performed at our previous edition of OVERFLOW with an NES-based set, but this time he’ll be doing something completely different: an improvised live-performance of the sprawling Pure Data projects that he generated in order to provide the procedurally-generated soundtrack to “BEEP: A Documentary History of Game Sound”. http://ift.tt/2AuwVUT
