Mistigram: one of the more conspicuous cats from the history of Mist Classic, our first wave in the ‘90s, this frisky feline was designed by the late Silent Knight, cut into a paper stencil and adeptly silkscreened by Crowkeeper at a meet-up onto one (1) prototype t-shirt, destroying the stencil in the process. Around this time, there was a schism in our ranks on the subjects of QC (“quality control”) and the place of “real-world art” in computer art collections. While I was banging my head against the wall trying (unsuccessfully for over a dozen years) to prototype the M-9808 artpack-as-webpage, my fond former colleagues were having a blast releasing artpacks under the name of Hallucigenia. It felt like a real kick to the ribs seeing my own crew’s “Mistfunk” shirt design appear, context-redacted, in another crew’s production, but that is where this piece appeared, in the HAL-0898 artpack collection. (For what it’s worth, I don’t think we would have successfully sold any shirts featuring this design, but that’s beside the point!) I’m *almost* over this incident now that the revived Mist has outlasted Mist Classic and released twice as much art. Almost. Still a little sensitive. https://ift.tt/2MUaSPk
