ADEPTAPRIL/NOV13
Mistigram: to understand the occasion, #SadieHawkinsDay, that AdeptApril's minimalist #ANSIart illustration is conveying here, you need to go way back to a 1937 installment of Al Capp's Li'l Abner comic strip, where for one day Sadie Hawkins, the mayor's homely daughter, would be entitled to marry any bachelor she could catch running a foot race. In the popular culture it has mellowed over the decades to simply indicate an occasion for a dance where women took the lead and asked men to attend with them, which in the 1930s might have been seen as shamelessly forward of them.
