Today on Mistigram, we wrap up our IWD series of paintings by @delphinehennelly of women and their smartphones, originally released in our MIST1116 22nd anniversary artpack collection. If this untitled piece seems vaguely familiar, go back and take a peek at yesterday’s post… it’s an earlier draft of the same composition, rendered in a different style! I know that you computer artists are used to the luxury of just being able to try out a filter then roll it back if you’re not satisfied with the end result, but Delphine has to go and actually paint it all! Fortunately, she enjoys the labour of painting. “Not so much a study but sometimes I paint the same image over again. I’m into seriality as a way to dig deeper into an image.” The particulars are shuffled here, with new details such as the jewelry and dove sandals, but the panopticon gravity here remains the crux, the weight of the world resting on the smartphone operator, surveiled closely not only by her two friends and her own device, but even by the fabric pattern on her picnic blanket. Illuminati imagery is everywhere, which is of course the whole point of Illuminati imagery: all eyez on her, and any remarks about gazes would be wholly extraneous. Thanks for watching (har har), and tomorrow we should have some special new vein of content for you! http://ift.tt/2moHcua
