Mistigram: also celebrating a birthday sometime in November (I could peg it to a specific date if I cared to consult the source documents, tucked away in a back corner at Mistigris.org), also enshrined by Cthulu around the turn of the century, we have area code 604’s notorious underground free speech echomail network, TABNet, The Adopted Bastards Network, the training ground for a heck of a lot of Mist lit. When BBSes stopped being a thang, the community migrated to a series of sweet web forums and indeed persists today on a private Slack instance. This crude but effective frontpage design for one of them (“b0nk” being a group shibboleth, known as the sound made while being beaten by “the eliteness bat”) was laid out as weird oversized pixelart entirely in an HTML table. Due to the way in which it was implemented, I am pleased to report that its typographical element remained legible even in the Lynx text-only web browser. This piece of work was also included in the MIST2000 artpack collection of “stuff you missed while we spent 16 years getting sorted.” https://ift.tt/2CIrmVk
