Mistigram: there’s a fifth column of demoscene and artscene alumni threaded through society, especially infosec, game development, film vfx and electronic music. Once in a while one of them comes out of deep cover to drop a little #ANSIart bomb and then go back into hiding for another two decades. Here’s Grobo celebrating the release of @overkill_tm’s #theWalkingDead game @overkillstwd by busting out a little oldschool textmode typography. This piece was released in this month’s MIST1118 artpack collection. https://ift.tt/2Qn8tQf

A last huzzah just before the end of the workday ending the week on the last day of the month… thanks to a late-breaking boost from @illarterate and a subscription from @richard_m48, our long-suffering Twitter account – our second most longstanding social media presence after our failed-to-launch Tumblr – has finally caught up with a feat we achieved on Instagram months ago and achieved the milestone of a thousand followers!

Everything we post elsewhere gets syndicated here, but we also do a great deal of what we consider to be excellent retweeting of textmode art, video game history and vintage computing subjects. Twitter, of all our audiences, you get the most shared with you – so it’s only fitting that we reach a few more people, and celebrate it! Here’s an ANSI art logo by LDA for the occasion that I’ve tortuously enhanced with a little iMovie motion graphics.

Mistigram: underground computer art has no choice but to be #cyberpunk whether it wants to or not. In this case @kalchano’s #Shift_JIS illustration is accompanying the opening lines from Vancouver writer #WilliamGibson’s 1982 story #BurningChrome, so whether the AR interface you’re jacked into is of sufficient resolution to paint a clear picture for you the piece’s attitude and intentions can’t be questioned. Mistigram: immediately following the MIST2YR artpack collection,...

Mistigram: immediately following the MIST2YR artpack collection, we intended to kick off the Mistigris World Tour, wherein our entire roster would release their art in a coordinated fashion as gang guest contributors to different artgroups’ artpacks every month. The first scheduled tour stop was in November of 1996 with Dieznyik’s project “Ophidiac” (meaning “snake-like”), so we released a placeholder MIST1196 artpack consisting solely of a serpentine illustrated riddle-poem, written by Bast and illustrated (or who knows where he might have stolen the art from) by Thanatos, who made a big fuss about the symbolic weight of the presence of the question mark in the tip of the feathered serpent’s tail. Yeah, nice touch. The only problem was that shortly following our announcement, Ophidiac officially closed operations! We’d pulled the plug on our monthly collection and left our fans a, what, null pointer directing them to a nonexistent location. Quite an unauspicious way to kick off our unprecedented and internally controversial world tour! (The tour began in earnest the following month with a mass guest Mist appearance in the December 1996 Blade Production artpack. Its riddle is coming up.) https://ift.tt/2r1VXr1

Mistigram: Happy American Thanksgiving (or as one Twitter wag described it, “Yanksgiving”)! I wish I could credit this piece’s creation to an “incorporate these discordant assigned themes” art challenge or at least a Cronenbergian telepod mishap, but the truth is we may never truly know what inspired @illarterate to go full surrealism with this “#Turkey Phone” #teletext screen, winner of the pro artist category at last month’s #Bloktoberfest teletext conference at @wigansteam. He may not even be able to explain it himself! (No point in trying to explain the patently inexplicable, that’s what we have religion for.)
